Getting there

We have not checked a road end or car park for this place yet, so we do not give driving directions to it. Check how to get there before you go. Some routes cross private land and need the landowner's permission.

How to get there, on doc.govt.nz

The Aongatete tracks start at the car park at the end of Wright Road, off SH 2 between Tauranga and Katikati, towards the Aongatete Outdoor Education Lodge. Park in the car park before the gate to the lodge.

You cannot go to the lodge as it is not public land. Contact the lodge manager to organise access.

The quickest access to the Nature Walk, enter the short loop track in an anti-clockwise direction.

About this place

This family-friendly loop takes you through a lowland forest area. There are interpretative signs about the local environment.

The route

The track begins at the car park at the end of Wright Road. Follow the signposted direction towards the loop tracks, until you come to a track junction. Here there is a signpost which will point you towards a 15-minute nature trail loop. This family-friendly short loop takes you through a lowland forest area and provides interpretive signage to explain the local environment. You will also learn about the forest layers, geology of the Kaimai Range, conservation and pests. At the end of the loop, return back to the car park the way you came.
