Hot Water Beach

Geothermal water can carry amoebic meningitis. Keep your head above the water. Check access before you go: some springs are on private land.

About this place

Hot Water Beach on the Coromandel Peninsula has hot water rising through the sand near the rocks at the southern end of the beach. For about two hours either side of low tide you can dig your own pool, so check the tide times and bring a spade. The beach has strong rips, so swim only between the flags when lifeguards are on.
