Geothermal water can carry amoebic meningitis. Keep your head above the water. Check access before you go: some springs are on private land.

About this place

Morere Hot Springs sit in the Morere Springs Scenic Reserve on State Highway 2, about 40 km north east of Wairoa and 50 km south of Gisborne. Warm, salty mineral water rises from a fault beneath the valley into several pools, including the Nikau Pools a short walk up through the bush. Entry is paid, and walking tracks lead into one of the East Coast's last stands of coastal nīkau forest.
