Ecstatic Dance, World Vegan Month

This World Vegan Month, we are bringing our community together for an evening of music, movement, connection and joyful chaos on the dance floor.

Ecstatic Dance is a free-form movement experience with no steps to learn and no choreography to follow. Leave your day at the door, tune into your body and let the music move you. Whether you are an experienced dancer or have absolutely no idea what you are doing, you belong on the dance floor. If you are vegan, vegan-curious, part of the wider community, or simply love to dance, you are welcome here.

The evening

• 5pm: doors open. Arrive, grab a cocoa, settle in and enjoy some slower music.
• 5.35pm: the dance journey begins, building gradually.
• 6.30pm: winding down with slower, more grounding music.
• 7pm: finish, then a gentle closing heart circle. Sharing is optional.

Our dance floor guidelines

• Be present: no phones or filming on the dance floor.
• Be embodied: no talking while dancing.
• Be consensual: ask before touching someone and respect their boundaries.
• Be aware: give people room to move.
• Be clear: no alcohol or recreational drugs.
• Be yourself: there are no dance moves to get right.
• Be kind: no judgement, no criticism and no unwanted advice.

Cocoa corner

Cocoa is $5 a cup and must be pre-ordered when you book, so we know how much to make. It is served before the dancing starts, between 5pm and 5.30pm. If cocoa is not within your budget, email secretary@veganchristchurch.org.nz after you book. Bring water, and try to avoid caffeine and a big meal beforehand.

Please book beforehand so we can plan for numbers. Come as you are, bring a friend or come solo.
